Hard Ground

05–16–24 to 10-14-24
Hard Ground brings together work by seven New York-based artists who employ processes of erosion, subtraction, and compression. Using an economy of means, the works hold residues of action in tension with a distillation or displacement of matter. Some works amplify density, honing in on a core; in others, reduction unveils the trace of an image. Diverging from a logic of assemblage and juxtaposition, these practices query how correlations between productivity, value, and surface are forged.

Artists include Matt Browning, Dora Budor, Jerry the Marble Faun, Amina Ross, Kern Samuel, Glanna Surangkanjanajal, and Mala VMIer

4

04–24–21 to 06-20-21
The symbolic meaning of the number four reveals itself in ancient symbolism, art history, religion, and philosophy. The work by the three artists in 4 are comprised of multiple components. The numerical aggregate of these elements can be reduced to the single digit 4 – representing creation, stability, the body, the illusion of time, and earthly balance, as well as other concepts relevant to the exhibition.

Artists include Amina Ross, Chadwick Rantanen, and Sean Donovan.

Re-Figure Ground

01–18–19 to 03-16-19
RE-FIGURE-GROUND explores myth, identity, and the body. It proposes a softening – opening up an alternative view to the ideologies of Silicon Valley. Virtual space is inhabited with queer bodies; the boundaries of technology and the body are blurred, as are the lines between author, image, and algorithm. The artists unapologetically disrupt normative cultural production, demonstrating what it means to inhabit this infinitely malleable world.
Artists include Morehshin Allahyari, LaTurbo Avedon, Snow Yunxue Fu,
